FAQs
Questions before ordering? Check here first!
Q: Are there safety issues with flinknapping?
A: Yes! There are inherent risks in the activity of flintknapping. Flintknapping involves the use of razor-sharp stone--holding it, handling it, and striking razor blades off the workpiece. These flakes fly off at high speed, showering the knapper’s body--especially arms, legs, and possibly face--with flakes. Some of these flakes are tiny, and can get into your eye easily, even while wearing safety glasses. Also, be aware that flakes often end up in your shoes! Not fun to cut your foot on a piece of flint in your own shoe! The practice requires ventilation such as a high-powered fan, as the material used is silica, which can be breathed in, to your detriment.
THIS STUFF WILL CUT YOU, DEEPLY. THAT'S WHAT IT WAS USED FOR. WE ACCEPT NO LIABILITY FOR ANYONE USING OR MISUSING THESE MATERIALS AND HURTING THEMSELVES.
Q: How young is too young to flintknap?
A: We specifically DO NOT encourage anyone less than 15 or 16 to attempt flintknapping, and even then, only those with uncommon sense and with the continuing presence of an adult. See above safety notice!
Q: Can I phone you with a question?
A: It works much better to ask questions in an email. We are a Mom & Pop operation, and every time someone calls the production must stop to answer the call. Please try to ask your questions by email first if possible. Email us at info@nativewayonline.com
Q: Do you have a store that we can visit if we are coming through southern Mississippi?
A: We have a rural shop location, and do not encourage walk-in business, as many of our materials are only graded and selected after they are ordered. If you would like to come visit us and do not expect merchandise neatly stacked on shelves, then make sure you email us well before you want to come by. We have many duties that take us into the field, and we are not always in the shop.
Q: Do you guarantee your products or services?
A: Yes, we offer a 14-day satisfaction guarantee on all products. We will refund a purchase if you return the product in original condition with the original packaging materials. Please see our Refund Policy.
Q: How quickly will my order be shipped?
A: Most orders ship within 48 hours, but there are many exceptions. Historic Weaponry replicas or custom items may take up to 4 weeks to ship, but often go out sooner. If we are out of the shop, out of stock on a particular item or if there are a lot of orders ahead of you, it may take up to a week before your order is sent, though this is uncommon. We will hold up your order if needed, waiting up to a few days on a single item, as we do not habitually send a portion and then the rest later. If there is an issue with an order, we will do our best to contact you and keep you updated on your order status.
Q: What are my shipping options?
A: Our standard shippers are UPS Ground Service and the Postal Service (USPS). Small packages are best shipped by USPS Ground Advantage or Priority Mail. Please indicate in the “Special Instructions for Seller” block any special shipping preference or requirements at checkout.
Q: I only have a $6 order, and the shipping charge is more than the price of the order. That doesn't seem right!
A: We do our best to offer a good value for our products. The shipper sets the transport costs and that is out of our control. Additionally, we try our best to generate an accurate automated shipping quote, but it’s tricky on items over 22 inches. Both USPS & UPS have different surcharges on long boxes. If a shipping quote seems out of line, please email us at info@nativewayonline.com or use the Contact form to verify shipping.
