Native Mississippi Gemstone Donut Beads made from rose and pink quartz. A native, semiprecious gemstone, Piedmont quartz has been iron-stained as the stones slid hundreds of miles in the gravel, creating beautiful pink, orange, and rose hues.
These stones were collected between Natchez and Brookhaven, Mississippi in ancient riverbed deposits. Rose quartz is a hard stone and takes a high, durable polish--it has to be hard to make it this far in the violent environment of the ancient rivers that carried it here over the last two million years. The rough stone is selected on-site to minimize cracks and other flaws. All are hand-cut and polished, some tumbled. These beads are perfectly imperfect, so they look like the handmade wonders they are.
Beads have large holes a minimum of 3mm to accommodate a cord or chain. At ⅞ inch diameter and ⅜ inch thickness, these beads can be strung singly as a focal bead or with others in a grouping.
